updated April, 1997
Finland joined the EPC on March 1, 1996. The Finnish Patent Law has been amended to make it compatible with the EPC . Section 1 of the Finnish Patent Act conforms to Article 52(2) of the EPC . Programs per se are not patentable, but technical methods carried out by a computer program are patentable.
The Finnish patent examiners unofficially follow the guidelines for examination of the
EPO.
There is no case law that deals specifically with the patentability of software.
